Micro Soccer Game Format and Rules Summary
1) U6 - Game shall consist of 4 quarters of 8-min each with a 2-min break between 1st and 2nd
quarters and 3rd and 4th quarters. Halftime shall be 5-minutes.
2) U8 - Game shall consist of 4 quarters of 12-min each with a 2-min break between 1st and 2nd
quarters and 3rd and 4th quarters. Halftime shall be 5-minutes.
3) U6 - Team on field shall consist of 3 players with no goalkeepers. Player substitutions can be
made freely during the game at any time.
4) U8 - Team on field shall consist of 4 players with no goalkeepers. Player substitutions can be
made during the game at any stoppage of play (throw-in, corner kick, goal kick, goal scored).
5) Play starts from center circle at the start of each quarter and after a goal is scored. Opposing team
is not allowed in the circle until ball has been kicked. Alternate who starts play at each quarter.
A coin toss can be used to determine first possession, if necessary.
6) Out-of bounds over touchline shall be played back in with a throw-in. (Team kicking ball out-of-
bounds looses possession to other team).
7) A team that kicks a ball out-of-bounds over their OWN goal line shall award the other team a corner
kick.
8) A team that kicks a ball out-of-bounds over their OPPONENT'S goal line shall award the other team
a goal kick. The goal kick is taken from the top line of the box surrounding the goal.
9) A Handball infraction is any INTENTIONAL handling of the ball with ANY part of the arm (top of
shoulder is legal). Upon an infraction, the opposing team shall be awarded an indirect kick. (U8's
only, let U6's play on)
10) The following infractions allow the opposing to take an indirect kick from the point of infraction.
a. Unsportsmanlike conduct to other players or coaches
b. Intentional tripping (player goes down without defender touching the ball first)
c. Pushing (contact is OK but INTENTIONAL pushing is not)
(Coaches - sportsmanship is very important at this age. Please control dangerous behavior. The goal at this age is to improve the players' skill and techniques...not winning. Removal of a player from a game should not be necessary except in extenuating circumstances but do so at your discretion.)
